The books are for kids, so the protagonist of each book is a kid, ordinarily about 10-11 years old. This series is splendid! The stories are a mix of historical fact and fictionalized story, bringing the events alive for centre-class age students. The books range from modern events similar 9/11 to more than aboriginal disasters like the destruction of Pompeii.I Survived the Hingenburg Disaster, 1937 is the 13th book in the series. Hugo is 11 and travelling on the Hindenburg with his parents and piffling sis, Gertie. Hugo'southward mother is a piddling chip agape to fly on an airship, simply Hugo tells her it's the safest way of travel with the fewest accidents. Little does he know that when they make it in New Jersey on May sixth, 1937 that the ship is going to explode while landing. This volume is fantabulous and could easily be used in a classroom situation. It could be used to encourage kids to read, equally supplemental reading for a history lesson or to read out loud to a course of students. Kids interested in history would honey this series. The topics are varied and the issue is related in realistic terms but not too graphic. Just enough detail....only not also much. The contents are age appropriate for middle-grade age children. As an adult, I enjoy this series too. I like to read children'due south books in between heavier adult fiction to give my brain a bit of a intermission. I love history, and so this series is perfect for me.
The encompass fine art for this serial is always colorful and eye-catching. The stories are interesting with lots of action. This series might be a expert choice for kids who are reluctant readers.

I Survived the Hindenburg Disaster, 1937 is, like all the I Survived books, very exciting with themes of backbone, resilience, and the importance of family unit. And Tarshis is genius at being able to weave these into a gripping tale in the midst of a dangerous historical event without distorting any of the history. She has included lots of information within the story about zeppelins, how they work and their use, even during Globe War I when they were used to drop bombs on civilians in both France and England. I knew airplanes were used for that, just I didn't know about zeppelins.
Nor does she shy away from Nazi violence or cruelty and yet information technology is never gratuitous. In this novel, Colonel Kohl is portrayed equally the kind of cold-blooded Nazi who would non think twice about shooting Hugo to get what he wants. But Tarshis also e'er makes sure to surroundings her protagonist with kind people, too, as she does hither with Hugo'due south parents, Mr. Singer, and Marty. And her protagonists are also kind people. Hugo risks a lot to make his sis happy, simply he knows what he has to do. And when the ship erupts in flames, his first thought is how to save his family.

Plot: The volume started off where Hugo and his family unit had to go to Kenya from the U.S. and stay for a yr. During that year they needed to go dorsum to the U.South. for the cure for Malaria that Gertie had gotten. She was getting high fevers, which was the reason they had to go back to the U.S. They had seen a physician before in Germany, but he couldn't help them and so they had to go to New York to encounter some other doctor to go the cure. During a ride Gertie wanted her dog and then Hugo went into the restricted area which was the cargo concord to go and get the dog for his sister. Fifty-fifty though Hugo went in the cargo agree he was scared considering there was word that there was a spy on the Hindenburg. He didn't want to get caught, but he wanted to get his sister'due south canis familiaris for his sister. He got the dog and then he heard someone behind him, it was the spy and there was a soldier right backside him. Hugo decided to help by distracting the soldier so the spy could get away. The spy barely got away and Hugo was able to become the dog for his sister. His sister Gertie's fever went away and she was happy. The Hindenburg was about to land when a storm started, they couldn't country the Hindenburg with the storm so they had to look information technology out. Afterwards the storm, they were going to state when they heard a boom and the Hindenburg started on burn and was complimentary falling. Hugo looked for his family to aid get off the Hindenburg. Recommend: I rated this book four out of five stars because I actually liked how Hugo risked a lot for his sis. Likewise, because I never actually knew about the Hindenburg until I read this book. I recommend this volume to anyone from the ages of ten to 18.

At the end of the trip the Nazis try to confront Marty's dad, simply a huge explosion went off saving him from the Nazi's.

I would recommend this book to kids that like historical books, from ages x and up, so they know nearly that historical outcome prior to reading the book. Any guy or girl would like information technology if they like history or historical events.

I gave this book a four star rating because the whole outline of the story is a skillful one. The message that it expresses to young readers is amazing. The message in this story is that anyone can go through literally the worst times in life and still come out alive and standing.
